Policemen "Risked Bird Flu" for Communicating in Earthquake Zone

Chinese armed-police troops implemented an ancient way, sending Chicken-feather-letter(very urgent message) by hiking, while trying to communicate with the isolated Wulong Village (words in yellow above) in the earthquake zone, Sichuan Province, reported by CCTV.

In the TV news program, the army interviewee explained, "The village is isolated and all the roads are blocked; in order to guarantee the communication, we decided to send the Chicken-feather-letter (meaning very urgent message in Chinese) there by hiking."

This news is so funny; I cannot imagine the army chief and the TV reporter took it for granted that this is the most efficient and effective way of communicating? Why did no one question their decision?

Come on! The Chinese army claims they have Stealth Fighter such as J-20 and the J-15 fighter which could land on the aircraft carrier, and they are unable to find a helicopter for landing on the village? Where are so many helicopters? This is an earthquake and so many people are dying! And they decided to send message by hiking? Did they think this is a vocation? A show?

OK, suppose they really could not find a helicopter, then can they find some inter-phones for communications? No? A modern army have no inter-phones or similar device? Do they have only mobile phones? Oh, then can we trust them to defend our country with poor communication technology?

Last but not least, maybe the TV reporter chose the word "Chicken-feather-letter" to describe that this is an urgent message, but this is not a good one. Since Bird Flu keeps annoying China at present, the audience can't help but would think whether the message soldiers may get infected by bird flu even they knew this might be just a metaphor. A news on the earthquake should let the audience focus on earthquake, isn't it?
