Tibet: Big Brother is Watching You!

Image
(The Big Brother in the movie "1984") As reported by Xinhua News Agency, all Internet, fixed line and mobile phone users in Tibet have provided service operators with their real names, as required by a 2011 local regulation, local authorities said Monday. By the end of 2012, 2.76 million fixed line and mobile phone users and 1.47 million web users in Tibet had registered for services under their real identities. Local authority declared that the real-name registration is conducive to protecting citizens' personal information and curbing the spread of detrimental information. Nyima Doje, deputy director of the regional communications administration, said that since the registration rules were implemented, the number of spam messages sent via the Internet and phones in Tibet has declined by more than 40 percent. However, to control the spam messages is just an excuse for Tibetan officials to demand users registered their real names. Because in cities such as Bei...

Obama and Xi Jinping: Their Photo Resembling the Cartoon of Winnie the Pooh

Image
Early this June, when President Obama met President Xi Jinping in America, one of their photos that resembles an illustration of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger has gone viral through the Chinese internet(below). The shot was so heated that it was quickly removed from Sina Weibo and led to the censorship to almost all the images of Winnie the Pooh. However, Chinese netizens found more relative cartoons: (This one is humorous because Chinese leaders always like to say that to build socialism is like crossing a river by feeling the stones ) And this gay-like one suggesting the relationship between US and China: So funny, isn't it?

China: A Country Without Today nor Tomorrow

Image
As a political tradition in current China, certain so-called " sensitive words " will be blocked in different anniversaries in Chinese search engines, including Sina weibo. The typical example is the anniversary of June 4 for every year. It is understandable to know that the terms such as " six four ", " 24th ", " candle " and " never forget " are all in the list of "sensitive words", however, sarcastically this year, this blocking list includes new words such as " Today " and " Tomorrow ", as the pictures shown above. If you put the words in the search engine of Sina Weibo, no information will return based on certain laws and rules . This blocking suggests nothing but that China is a country without Today nor Tomorrow!

Lots of Pictures in Memorializing the 1989 Crackdown on Tiananmen Square Protest

Image
As is well known, Today (June 4) is the 24th anniversary of 1989 Tiananmen Square Protest, which was repressed soon and hundreds of young students and workers devoted their lives for democracy. After the 1989 crackdown of Tiananmen Square Protest, the Communist Party of China decided to build a regime of totalitarianism in China, as they put themselves as the leaders of this country and they want to profit themselves with the power in their hands, so they deny the very history and try to make the people forget it in many ways (such as deleting certain webpages and blocking discussions online about it). However, the people would not forget what happened in June 4, 1989, and many netizens put their works online to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the democracy protest. Here are some of them:

Xi Jinping's Love Show in Children's Day Satirized by Netizens

Image
Since June 1 is China's Children's Day and this is the first Children's Day since Xi Jinping elected President, CCTV specially broadcasts a love show of Xi Jinping in Beijing Children Center in order to show how happy the children in China are. However, this love show has been satirized by lots of netizens as several serious scandals about young girl students' being sexually assaulted broke out recently . It is really ironical to believe that normal young children, rather than some government-chosen children specially for show , in China could live happy lives. Thus, some netizens commented sarcastically on the picture: " Look at Mr. Xi Jinping in the picture, he is so like a schoolmaster! " (The word " schoolmaster " became a negative word since the suspect sexually assaulting the 6 girls in Wanning, Hainan, is the schoolmaster of the primary school.)

Netizens Sarcastic Protest: "Schoolmaster, Sleep with Me if You Want! No Pupils!" Including Ai Weiwei

Image
June 1 is China's Children's Day, however, this year the festival is doomed to be ruined by several continuous scandals of girl pupils' being sexually assaulted. The first case broke out in May 13 in Wanning, Hainan Province. A schoolmaster and a government official in Hainan Province were arrested in connection with the sexual assault to 6 primary school girls. The government spokesman said the girls were sexually molested but not raped. However, the government bureau and police refused to have the girls' health condition further checked, while the parents of some girls posted the pictures of their daughter's underwear, proving that rape(s) took place. The incident triggered national outrage; many netizens questioned local government and required those who should be responsible punished. Some netizens even questioned China's current related laws, which failed to offer enough protection to minors and many suspects who raped young boys/girls under 14 foun...
